Ambassador Ferhat Alkan assumed his duties as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Federal Republic of Somalia on 21 September 2026.

Ambassador Alkan previously served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Mozambique from 1 February 2025 to 15 September 2026.

Ambassador Alkan began his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. Throughout his career, he has held the following positions:

Third Secretary, Iraq Department, Directorate General for the Middle East (2001–2004)

Second Secretary, Embassy of Türkiye in Kabul, Afghanistan (2004–2007)

Second Secretary, Embassy of Türkiye in Washington, D.C., United States (2007–2009)

Head of Division, Office of the Special Representative for Iraq (2009–2011)

Chief of Presidential Protocol (2011–2014)

Consul General of Türkiye in Houston, United States (2014–2017)

First Counsellor, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Türkiye in Beijing, People’s Republic of China (2017–2020)

Head of the Libya Department, Directorate General for North Africa (2020–2021)

Special Adviser to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2021–2024)

Deputy Director General for China (2024–2025)

Born in Kayseri in 1976, Ambassador Alkan is married and has one child.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Middle East Technical University (METU Ankara) in 1999 and his Master’s degree from the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham in 2000.
